Operation Anthropoid & Lidice
In May 1942 two Czechoslovak parachutists attacked Reinhard Heydrich in Prague; he died of his wounds a week later. In reprisal the village of Lidice was destroyed on 10 June 1942 — 173 men were shot, the women were deported to Ravensbrück, and most of the children were murdered. The crypt of the Cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius on Resslova Street, where the parachutists died, and the Lidice memorial are both open to visitors.
