Three things Prague invented and still does best.

Laterna Magika was built in Prague for the 1958 Brussels world fair and has played in the city ever since: black velvet, ultraviolet light, and performers dressed in black who vanish while the objects they carry float. Bohemian Crystal
Glass has been blown in the Bohemian forests since the thirteenth century, and the lead crystal that made the name was being cut at Harrachov by 1712. The workshops sold as days out put a blowpipe or a cutting wheel in your hands; the shops in the old town sell you the finished thing, and knowing cut from pressed is the whole trick.

The Beer Spa
A wooden tub of warm water, brewer’s yeast, hops and dark malt, a self-pour tap beside it and a straw bed afterwards. The Czechs did not invent bathing and they did not invent beer, but they are the ones who put the two in the same room and then sold tickets. By what kind of day it is
Some of Prague’s history is not a day out.
Josefov holds six monuments and a cemetery with twelve layers of graves, and the walls of the Pinkas Synagogue carry the names of 77,297 Czech and Moravian Jews murdered in the Shoah. Terezín, an hour north, was a ghetto and a transit camp. Lidice, west of the city, was destroyed in a reprisal killing in June 1942. The forty-one years of one-party rule that followed ended on Národní třída in November 1989. All four are open to visitors, and admission to the memorials supports them.
